FAQs for exercise classes

What should I wear for the exercise class?

Trainers, leggings and a Tshirt, and bring a top to put on so that you don't get cold during the cool down and stretch. You could bring a towel to put on the mat and it can also be used to support the head when doing abdominal work.

Don't forget to bring a drink.

Do I need to be super fit to take part in the class?

No, the class is designed so that you can work at your own level. Some people partake in all the high impact options while some do the whole class at low impact. If you are concerned about your fitness, start with the Monday night class rather than the Thursday.

What is the age of the people who come to the class and are they all skinny?

There are all ages, shapes and sizes; it is a very friendly class where newcomers are made to feel welcome by other participants.

What do I need to bring?

A drink and maybe a towel, all other equipment is provided.

Is it all women?

It is mostly women but there are men who attend as well. If you are interested in a class more geared towards men then call and let us know, we are always keen to develop new sessions.

FAQs for weight loss/healthy lifestyle sessions

Is Weight Loss for Life a dictated meal plan?

No. Meal plans, healthy foods, potion sizes and amonts are are discussed in great detail, and meal plans are produced around individual food tastes and life circumstances

Will I have to eat different meals than my family?

If your family eat choclate and chips all the time them maybe but Weight Loss For Life encourages the whole family to find healthy foods they enjoy. This may mean compromising and eating pizza or chips but if eaten in moderation and with other healthy foods you should still be able to lose weight

What age group do you work with?

The meetings and workshops are for adults but if you wanted advice for the whole family this could be arranged.

Will I have to take vitamins?

If you have a balanced varied diet there should be no need for vitamin suppliments. If you have a condition that requires a supplement such as calcium as part of the treatment for osteoporosis this should be discussed with your GP or dietition.

Can I target certain areas of my body?

There is very little control over where the body sheds its fat during a weight loss phase, and genetics are mostly responsible for body shape and fat storage. A healthy diet and increasing physical activity will help to improve your shape regardless of what genetics have given you.

If you want to tone up a targeted area of your body it is possible to perform specific strength training exercises; examples would be if you wanted to improve the shape and tone of your shoulders or legs, you would perform shoulder presses or squats respectively (see the Get Into Shape at Home Book).
