Health Tips

Tip number one

If you want to be more active and do not like exercise such as going to the gym, try parking a little further from the entrance to wherever you are visiting. Examples are park further away from the entrance to the supermarket or place of work and further away from your friends house or where possible if its a short trip leave the car at home, those few extra steps each time do make a difference
Tip number two

It can be very hard to find the motivation to be active and exercise, the times I have exercised regularly have been when I arranged to go with someone else.

Examples are:

When my children were small and in a pushchair I used to meet my friend each week and we would go for a walk around a park or riverside track.

I used to meet a group of friends on a Sunday before dinner and some of us would walk a one, two or three mile track and others would run, and we all gathered at the end for a chat.

Both of these examples were social meetings as well as a physical activity exercise which made finding the motivation to go much easier, therefore find a suitable time and activity that you could enjoy on a regular bases with a friend, family member or work colleague.

I would be great to hear from anyone who already meets to exercise with others so I could put any ideas on the website for others to see.
Tip number three

This tip is a quick Italian style recipe for those times when you are in a hurry

Ingredients
Tinned tomatoes or pasata (or both)
Frozen peppers or other choice of vegetables such as frozen peas
Italian seasoning from a herb jar
Frozen or fresh onion
Minced garlic from a herb jar
Cooked ham or chicken or grilled bacon and black olives
Pasta

1) Put the pasta on to boil
2) Put the tomatoes, onions, garlic, Italian seasoning, and peppers into a pan and heat
3) After 10 - 15 minutes when the tomatoes are bubbling, add the cooked meat of your choice and cook until piping hot
4)Serve with the cooked pasta

You will need to sauté the onions if you are using fresh ones and the amounts of each ingredient used depends on how many people are eating and your individual taste.
This tomato and vegetable base with your choice of protein can be used to make lasagne or pasta bake; it is also delicious made with lentils with a little grated cheese on top. (lentils take a little longer to cook)
Tip number four

If you like the convenience of takeaway food, instead of a Chinese, Indian or pizza go to a supermarket and buy a cooked chicken some pre-packed salad and some crusty bread and enjoy a meal with less calories additives and fat
Tip number five

One of the best tips I was ever given when trying to lose weight was to write down everything I ate and drank for one week, I have to admit it gave me a shock and certainly helped me to eat more healthily and lose weight Therefore carry a small note book around with you and write down everything that you eat and drink for one week.
Tip number six

This tip is a dessert idea

Put frozen berries such as blackberries, blue berries or mixed bag of summer fruits which are available from many food outlets into diet yogurt such as raspberry, cherry or strawberry. Leave to stand for between 15 - 30 minutes, the berries will start to defrost and the yogurt becomes very cold nearly like ice cream, delicious.
